A silver lining for Huawei in New Zealand?

Jacinda Ardern, the prime minister of New Zealand, said on Monday that she still welcomes Huawei’s involvement in New Zealand’s 5G rollout, and her administration is considering conducting an independent assessment of the Chinese company’s security risk. Such comments came at a time when concerns over New Zealand’s relationship with China are mounting. Previously, several western countries including the US and UK were claiming Huawei’s products and parts which are essential to the newly developed 5G technology infrastructure of posing threats with dangerous implications for national security.
