The Spring Festival Gala, known as “Chunwan” in Chinese, was staged on the night of Chinese new year’s eve, celebrating millions of families’ togetherness and sending away the old days of 2018. Initiated in 1983, Chunwan has transformed its identity into a political event, showcasing administrative power and advocating core values of building a harmonious society, mostly calling for unity, fraternity, love and peace. Two of the most popular comedy skits, Here Comes the “Son” and Hogging the Best Seat, both depicted social changes and reflected the underlying problems caused by the modern super fast pace of life.
