Alibaba’s Tmall aims to double Global brands with English portal
Limitless is one word to define the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba. The company launched an English-language website for its Tmall Global marketplace targeting merchants, in efforts to double the number of international brands on the platform to 40,000 in the next three years, reported by Reuters. Tmall currently hosts 20,000 international brands across 77 countries and regions, more appealing and accessible to niche, small and medium-sized brands from other countries. Amidst the ongoing U.S-China trade war and increased competition from emerging social-e-commerce rivals like Pinduoduo Inc., the company is currently suffering lean revenue growth and believes the new English-language portal will assist merchants with tasks such as opening shops on Tmall Global. The company also plans to roll out a similar portal in Spanish and Japanese.
