Alibaba’s travel platform Fliggy initiated online duty-free stores
To attract more traffic from visitors who plan to shop in overseas duty-free shops, the Alibaba owned tourism platform, Fliggy, recently launched a novel service called Fliggy Buy, which allows users to shop online in virtual tax-free stores prior to their journey by providing detailed product descriptions, and a pick up service after their arrival. The new initiation eyes building connections between merchants and their targeted audience, in a way to promote more of valuable tourism information about trips. The immense growth of Chinese outbound travelers is catching everyone’s attention worldwide, up 13.5% since 2017 amounting to 140 million, and they spend an average of 9% more on their overseas trips in 2018.
