AlipayHK recruited 2 million users and 50,000 merchants in the first year

Alipay has made some grades in HongKong amid the trend of tech giants exploring opportunities overseas. According to the official statement, AlipayHK, which is a standalone tailor-made mobile payment app for Hongkongers, gained 2 million users and provided cross-border payment service to 50,000 merchants. The next breakthrough foreseen by Alipay is to tap into the adoption of public transportation services in a way to boost the user base. However, as the number of Chinese tourists rises, it’s very likely there will be more merchants around the world accepting Chinese payment apps.
