Baidu has not yet quite extricated itself from the scandal of dominating self-produced content in search results, another incident may further degrade users’ trust in the search engine giant – pornography links appeared in nearly 40 entries indexed by Baidu encyclopedia (known as Baidu Baike) with regard to kindergartens and primary schools, which can be accessed within China without a use of VPNs. Swift remedial action were taken including removal of links and the addition of self-checks by Baidu. However, Baidu’s ability to prevent low-brow, even harmful information from appearing as part of search results has again come into question.
