Banking apps in China are abusing their rights regarding data collection

Mobile applications of several major Chinese banks including Pudong Development Bank, Bank of Beijing and Bank of Shanghai are found to be over-collecting personal data with excessive requests to access users’ phone information. China is lagging behind its European and American counterparts on legislations with regard to online data and privacy protection. The Cybersecurity Law which was introduced in 2017, is now serving as a framework for developing data protection regulations.
