Beijing to adopt an intelligent system to manage cross-border data flow

China’s data localization law issued in 2017 requires that data to be transferred overseas to be cleared by the public security authorities, and Beijing is taking measures to enforce that regulation. The pilot scheme initiated by the local government consists of various edge-cutting technology applications which include big data, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and 5G, with aims to assess the risks when transferring data abroad, in respect to both the firm’s data security credentials and data backups.
