The strong criticism against Google to launch a censored search engine in China has effectively terminated their plan. The initiative dubbed “Dragonfly”, was a collaboration with a Beijing -based website 265.com in providing data for Google to learn about Chinese search habits thereby developing content blacklists to comply with government regulations. Most of its relevant findings throughout the project remained undisclosed which sparked suspicion within the US of the company being complicit in working with China’s authorities under the table, especially in terms of advanced internet technology fields, for example artificial intelligence (AI).
