Bytedance, the owner of Tiktok or Douyin in China, is making great strides paving its way to the e-commerce sector. The short video giant recently obtained a fintech license allowing it to establish its own payment service system to be used across the platform, which is a crucial piece of the company’s expansion strategy to online shopping. Besides, product links that redirect traffic to Taobao or JD for order placements during webcasts on the platform will be prohibited, starting from 9th of October, indicating Bytedance’s ambition to amalgamate content distribution with e-commerce.
