The Chinese tech giant Bytedance, which owns TikTok and Today’s Headline, is aiming to create 40,000 new jobs this year to reach a goal of 100,000 employees globally. Its first recruitment drive of the year started this week, looking to hire around 10,000 employees on a global scale – 99% of whom are located in China while the rest are scattered between Singapore, London and New York. The expanding business range and the great demand for technology skills by the company is in contrast to the dismal worldwide outlook, since most employers are cutting staff or have a freeze on recruitment, a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
