The short video and news aggregator upstart Bytedance escalates the warfare with Baidu by invading the latter’s home turf – search engine. The company revamped and rebranded Hudong Baike to Toutiao Baike, which was the major rival to Baidu Wiki and a 15-year-old online encyclopaedia site. The new service will be mainly serving Toutiao Search, the search engine Bytedance rolled out last August.
