Cardinal George Pell the second highest cleric in the Roman Catholic church was given a prison sentence of 6 years after being found guilty of raping a 13-year-old boy and sexually assaulting another boy of the same age by a unanimous jury in Melbourne Australia. This is the latest episode of an escalating scandal which has unfolded in recent years and has exposed the church’s indifference to and compliance with clerical pedophilia on a global scale. Pope Francis, supreme head of the largest religion in the world has so far declined to comment. Pell will appeal the conviction in June.
