Facing the increasing awareness of privacy abuse contrived by the technology, China released Personal Information Security Standards, which will come into effect Oct. 1, 2020. Apart from regulating how much biometric information can be collected from users and for how long they can be stored, the standards also specify that service provider cannot refuse to provide access to functions or reduce service quality if users do not consent. It could be a great beginning to protect people from an unnecessary data leak, nevertheless, there is still a long way to go before it’s successfully enforced.
