China is moving fast on pushing forward with 5G technology. Despite the disputes with the US with regards to Huawei’s espionage scandal which has led to a global boycott of its products, the authorities are focusing more on the domestic market growth in a hope to offset the current backlash. China Mobile, world’s largest telecom carrier in terms of mobile subscribers, plans to build 50,000 5G base stations in over 50 cities this year and will offer 5G services to all the prefecture-level cities next year. The other two major Chinese service carriers are following the move closely.
