China to ban ‘immoral’ celebrities from livestreaming activities
Posted On December 1, 2020
Last week, a notice issued by China’s Radio and Television Administration sparked debates on the internet, which is to eliminate the presence of ‘illegal and immoral artists’ on livestream platforms. Questions arose from the use of vague wording and definition of ‘immoral’ behaviour by the notice, while some argued that it’s not social media’s mission to judge what constitutes ‘immorality’. As the regulation has not been enacted, how it will affect the industry as well as people’s preference on livestreaming remains unknown.
