Facing mounting pressure of parcel deliveries resulting from the Pre-Singles day promotion with increasingly lower wages, couriers working for Chinese logistics firms have resorted to strikes attempting to draw social attention to their poor working conditions. On the other hand, a Southeast Asian interloper J&T is expanding rapidly by offering subsidies and thereby leveraging rivals’ existing distribution networks. The latecomer is primarily serving e-commerce platforms opposed to Alibaba, namely Pinduoduo and Douyin.
