Chinese leading ride-hailing service provider Didi extended service hours for hitch a ride at night to 11pm after a series of heightened safety measures have been implemented. Now both drivers and passengers qualified to use the service are requested to verify their identities and have to pass the safety exam, combined with having to have clean records, ie. no complaints in the past year. Didi confined its carpooling to a 5am to 8pm service in 2018 due to safety concerns following two rape-and-murder cases carried out by drivers on female passengers.
