Guangzhou authorities made a bid invitation to a spectrum of bike sharing providers for a quota totaling 400,000 bicycles, which signals a lift on an 18-month-ban on public biking services within the city. Both Mobike and Hello Transtech announced their enthusiasm to participate in the bidding describing it to be a chance for industrial revival. Nevertheless, hindered by the difficulties in bicycle control and enormous waste management problems resulting from the explosive market expansion, cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou, are curbing the number of bicycles in circulation by downsizing their operational regions.
