We have been closely watching the progress of the Sino-US disputes, and the latest “rumor” that strikes us is that iPhone’s cost could be inflated by 3%, pushing it to $150, which may be passed on to customers in the future. The price rise can be mainly attributed to the increased tariffs on parts that are made in China. Apple has lowered prices for three iPhone models as much as RMB 1,200 ($175) per device to compensate its plain sales performance, which sank 22% year-on-year to $10.22 billion for the first 3 months of 2018.
