The new video by KFC to promote its cold drinks has received a strong backlash. Being suspected of plagiarizing BlackPink’s music video with substantial evidence, from the modeling to scenery to the overall concept, users from Chinese social media platforms expressed their shock at the boldness and copycat behavior of the world’s leading fast-food service provider. However, the netizen’s outrage developed from the growing awareness of intellectual property protection is not applicable yet to the local enterprises – most of Chinese are in a more tolerant mood towards domestic plagiarism.
