The cooperation between MIT and Chinese telecom giants has been suspended. Affected by the US government warning against the potential national risks imposed by deploying Huawei’s gears, several universities including Stanford University and the University of California at Berkeley have all cut future research collaborations with Huawei. The action was taken in response to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) signed by president Donald Trump, which pointed to the risk of losing federal research grants to universities which failed to drop the use of Huawei or ZTE’s telecoms equipment.
