Over-exaggerated medical claim resulted in a four-year-old girl’s death
The misleading marketing claim by Quanjian, one of the biggest healthcare products and service provider in China, was blamed for the loss of a four-year-old girl’s life, whose father had stopped her treatment by a hospital in Beijing, but instead bought the company’s medicines believing their falsely alleged and exaggerated medical claims. The incidents resulted in Quanjian’s listings being removed from all major e-commerce platforms including Alibaba’s Taobao and TMall, JD.com and the group-buying platform, Pinduoduo. Authorities and administrations have teamed up to investigate the case, which will probably lead to more stringent regulations to curb fraudulent advertisements.
