Pinduoduo partners with GOME to expand product range
The recently announced cooperation by the group-buy e-commerce upstart Pinduoduo with offline retailer GOME is touted as a win-win-win strategy in the statement. Consumers win through a wider range of top domestic and international brands at competitive prices, GOME wins by gaining access to Pinduoduo’s database of 585.2 million users, and PDD wins because of the foothold enhancement in household appliances and electronics. To augment user base and improve technological capabilities, Chinese e-commerce platforms and offline retailers are working together intensively. Early in 2015, Alibaba invested $4.6 billion in GOME rival, Suning, to facilitate a range of collaborations.
