It’s become noticeable in some parts of China that people are swarming to the streets at night selling all sorts of things from stalls set out along the pavements. This is the so-called ‘street-stall initiative’, which is an answer to the call from Premier Li Keqiang’s remarks on street-vendor economy resurrection amid the COVID-19 pandemics. E-commerce platforms including Alibaba and JD.com are offering interest-free loans or credit for street vendors, and Suning provides stall owners with free warehouse space in all the off-line stores.
