Taiwanese hit game was pulled from Steam for “wrong political stance”
A horror PC game released on Feb. 19, whose overwhelmingly positive feedback had amazed China’s social media, recently attracted great controversy, or backlash, for its well-hidden political message. The minute details which showed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s image on “Easter eggs” and sinister spells were not obvious enough to be easily spotted, but was later discovered by game players where they elicited serious criticism for “slipping politically charged content into a game“. Red Candle Games, the actual game maker, claimed a third party partner was solely responsible for the wrongdoing. Discussions and hashtags regarding the topic were all removed from China’s social media. The latest update states the game was temporarily taken down from the game downloading platform Steam.
