Tencent is cutting the budget for its gaming marketing

Though the gaming business has long been the pillar of Tencent’s money spinners, it recently cut down its budget for marketing, encountering an increasingly chilling phenomenon widespread in the gaming industry. Since the Chinese government has been tightening regulations on the licensing for new games and increasing censorship of existing games, the revenue generated declined even from the most popular ones. In his recent speech, Pony Ma, the CEO of Tencent, was very vocal about “taking more responsibilities for juvenile protection with regard to game addiction”.
