TikTok has grown into the 4th most downloaded non-game app worldwide, easily surpassing Instagram’s 400 million and narrowing the gap with Facebook. However, the rapid growth and burgeoning popularity belie a serious underlying problem with the in-app system which has issues with misuse of the platform – being accused of posing “national scale security threat”, it is experiencing severe regulatory restrictions by multiple countries for spreading vulgar and low-brow content.
