TikTok was accused of being a “hunting ground” for paedophiles
A side effect of becoming a global company and gaining international publicity is attracting activists’ attention over social concerns, which TikTok is now experiencing. The app it was said is being misused by abusers preying on children, and in-app protective measures have been called for by child protection charities. A survey conducted by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) also drew negative conclusion against the viral video app, claiming that 25% of 40,000 schoolchildren interviewees had livestreamed with a stranger, while one in 20 children were asked to strip while livestreaming or commenting. Bytedance is facing a series of bans taken by authorities in multiple countries, based on charges of spreading vulgar and dissident content and also posing as a severe threat to national security.
