TikTok’s parent company issued a Snapchat-like short-video app
Bytedance, the company boasting ubiquitous short video app TikTok (Douyin) and news aggregator product Today’s Headline, launched a new online service this Tuesday called Duoshan (多闪), which is similar to Snapchat. However, some of its features such as a 72 hours availability of videos, lucky money function and video messaging between users, all remind people of the Chinese dominating social app, WeChat, plus its latest overhaul – time capsule, which identifies something equivalent of video disappearing within a certain period of time. Well, here’ the question – will Bytedance succeed against its rival Tencent by tapping into the growing video-app preference of Chinese people?
