TikTok’s selloff to US suitors could be impeded by China’s government
Another uncertainty is getting in the way of the TikTok sale in the US – a revised Catalogue of Prohibited or Restricted Export Technologies by Chinese government added 23 items to the list, which are limited technologies whose export abroad is banned. Considering the catalogue has not been updated for nearly 12 years, the action by Beijing is widely interpreted as a fightback in the US tech-war as the platform has greatly applied artificial intelligence and deep-learning algorithms to deliver personalized content to users. Bytedance, the company behind the short video app, stated on its official channel that it will strictly comply with the regulation when handling the deal.
