Following Alipay and WeChat’s progress with the development of facial pay technology, the state-backed payment solution provider Union Pay is catching up with the trend and has started offering the two-factor authentication process, dubbed “Face Scan Pay”, which requires users to enter a payment password after the facial scanning verification. The implementation of the technology however, has sparked public debate concerning personal privacy and data misuse issues.
