The rampant growth of mini-programs, which stands for stripped-down ‘apps’ that run within WeChat, is fueling Apple’s concerns, among which the generated revenue distribution has developed into a major issue. According to Caixin on Wednesday citing unnamed sources, Apple is demanding 30% of purchase revenue which has resulted in negotiations situation reaching an impasse. This is not the first time that talks have ended in a stalement – Apple did not lift the restriction on its users to tip for content producers until last June, on a condition that all of the proceeds went directly to individual account operators.
