Xiaomi pre-installs earthquake alerts for life saving purposes

Though having been around for some time, the earthquake early warning system, as well as its associated mobile application, was rarely installed on people’s phones as it was thought “unnecessary”. However, the feature is now available bundled with MIUI 11, the native operating system for all Xiaomi’s devices. It has successfully reported a 4.1-magnitude earthquake that hit Yibin, Sichuan, on Nov. 10.
